Leicester Ladies showed real fighting spirit during two games at Oxford on Sunday, November 4 - against Bristol and then Oxford Students.

After a long day of competitive volleyball it was disappointing that they walked away with two 3-2 defeats, but the team showed determination never seen before by the squad's coaches.

The game against Bristol was a close match and Leicester, as usual, were slow to start. But they warmed into the game nicely and pulled out some moves which showed players were thinking tactically. Leicester fought a good fight but lost 3-2 with set scores 23-25, 25-19, 25-22,15-25 and 12-15.

Never expecting to be in with a chance against the established Oxford Students, this year relegated from Division 2, Leicester found the pressure was lifted, enabling players to perform to the best of their ability.

It was a superb match to watch with both team's coaches bouncing around on the sidelines in anticipation of victory.

Again, it was an excellent display of volleyball from the Leicester Ladies, as well as moments of killer instinct and a determined presence on court, but a "mistake" by the confidence-lacking referee at 11-11 in the fifth set - a let was called when the point was clearly Leicester's - knocked their confidence and they failed to recover. Set scores were 24-26, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12 and 15-13.
