It was a game that saw two teams of equal skill level battle it out. Leicester started well and took an early lead. Despite Cambridge using both of their time outs to curtail the deficit the set went LVC's way 25-19.

In the 2nd set the teams traded points until 8-8 when Cambridge managed to establish a small 2-point lead. At 11-13 Leicester suddenly lost their discipline and concentration. Cambridge took full advantage and closed out the set 14-25.

Leicester came out determined in the 3rd set to make up for the disaster and they established a small lead right from the start. Good serving and blocking discipline allowed them to take the set convincingly 25-13.

The 4th set saw both teams trading points with Cambridge having a small 2-point advantage, but it turned into a real thriller towards the end. At 20-24, Leicester was already thinking about the fifth set, when four excellent blocks allowed them to level the score 24-24. But the come back must have taken its toll as the team couldn't keep the concentration up and lost the set 24-26.

The deciding 5th set saw a paralysed Leicester team, probably still dwelling on the lost opportunities in the previous set, while Cambridge was full of confidence. A 1-4 deficit forced coach Tim to take an early time out. Leicester had managed to cut the deficit to 2 points when the teams changed ends, but Cambridge had the better mental strength and took the set 10-15.

It was a winnable game for LVC, in which they scored more points than Cambridge, but they lacked the discipline to do the job.
