Leicester Volleyball Club boasts a lively ladies team with a mixed bag of priorities; training hard, playing at a competitive level and having fun.
With a new coach this season, Leicester Ladies will once again enter a team in the National League Division 3 Central as well as the Northampton regional league.
Training between 7.45pm and 9.45pm on Wednesday nights, the ladies will sweat it out under the watchful eye of coaches Gary Peryer and Gordon MacDonald at Cannons in Leicester.
The emphasis this year will be on training hard, playing hard and having a lot of fun along the way. And for those not confident or experienced enough to dip their toe in the National League, Leicester will enter a team in the Northampton league for good measure.
Matches are triangulars (where three teams play each other on the same day, a Sunday) and often include an overnight stay - usually where there's a nice restaurant or even a few bars.
Now, here's the history part. Back in 1999 and due to changing priorities and players moving away, the Leicester Ladies gracefully stepped down from the National League, ending a long stint at that level.
Since then the club has gained great pace and players and after a break of four years the ladies re-entered the National League and in their first season back reached the play-off final.
And they're still fired up and raring to go, both on and off court. As well as continuously striving to improve their volleyball skills Leicester Ladies are a social team with plenty of nights out, meals or weekends away.
