It was a hit and miss day for Leicester on Sunday, September 16, as they travelled to Wales for their first matches of the season against Cardiff Tigers and Cardiff Ladies.
With a new coach, new positions and a new-found enthusiasm Leicester put themselves under immense pressure to beat Cardiff Tigers - and ultimately buckled.
The ladies were slow to start and gave Tigers more points than they deserved. They struggled to warm into the first set, handing it to their opponents 25-11 through a catalogue of errors.
Leicester did improve as the game went on but lost 25-21 and 25-20 in the second and third sets, handing Cardiff Tigers a 3-0 victory.
Deflated by their loss, a morale boosting talk from coach Gary Peryer and the threat of "being fired" from stand-in captain Robyn Slingsby and the girls lifted their heads.
It was a different game completely against Cardiff Ladies and Leicester came together like they had done in training, showing what they were capable of.
Failing to gain a 3-0 victory at all last season, Leicester Ladies were happy to walk away with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-14 win.
Despite the rusty start, Leicester have a lot to look forward to as they work towards staying in the top end of Division 3 this season.
